Northampton Cathedral was constructed in the mid-nineteenth century, with major alterations in the 1950s and 1960s, and is an extremely busy place of worship.

Lincoln Conservation was commissioned to conserve the polychrome wooden statues of the St Thomas of Canterbury and Our Lady Immaculate, along with the fourteen wooden Stations of the Cross, and polychrome stone figurative label stops and angle corbels.

The wooden objects were in a relatively good condition – with only light cleaning and minor repairs to be made. However, the stone objects had gathered a significant amount of dirt, and obtained losses both minor and major. For all objects, conservation aimed to sensitively clean, consolidate and repair the objects to ensure that they could be enjoyed by future generations.
