A significant example of 1950s interior decoration by John Fowler, Kelmarsh Hall underwent a four-month programme of cleaning, repairing and restoration of paintwork.

The work involved consolidating the flaking and delaminating paint, ‘ironing’ it back to the surface and carefully colour matching to the surrounding areas where there were losses.

This project is one of very few on this scale and of such importance in the development of the English Country House style. We are proud to be given this opportunity to demonstrate how we can deliver innovative solutions to the challenges involved, provide experience and education while ensuring the highest professionals service is delivered to our clients.

As part of the educational remit of the Kelmarsh Hall Trust, it was particularly important that the conservation students from the University of Lincoln were involved.
