Dr Phillipa McDonnell is an architectural paint researcher with over a decade’s experience in the research and analysis of historic paints and finishes, including wallpaper.
As a conservator and research fellow, Phillipa leads and undertakes practice and research-focused projects, as well as and the development and delivery of CPD and educational outreach.
Phillipa has contributed to the development of EU standards and global guidelines for architectural finishes research. Her doctoral research, Architectural Paint in Britain, 1830–1905, examined nineteenth-century paint manufacture through the combined study of archival sources and material evidence.
